Union Welcomes Public Consultation “At Last”: City of Montreal Hears From Residents About Losing Home Mail Delivery

The City of Montreal’s public hearings about the consequences of the elimination of door-to-door delivery are being applauded by postal workers, who have been calling for broader community consultations since Canada Post first announced its cuts.

“Canada Post executives certainly did not consult adequately with Canadians prior to cutting their services,” said Denis Lemelin, National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, who will be presenting the union’s brief on Tuesday, January 20th.

Alain Duguay, president of CUPW’s Montreal Local will also be presenting on the following evening, Wednesday the 21st. “We hope these hearings about the impact on the public, especially seniors and people with reduced mobility, will persuade Canada Post to reconsider this disastrous plan,” said Duguay.
